Privacy policy

What Zap collects, and what it does not.

Last updated: November 2026

Zap processes the information needed to provide accounts, discovery, notifications, and peer-to-peer transfers. This policy does not identify a separate legal entity because none is specified here.

1. Account and profile data

When you create an account, Zap processes your email address, account identifier, and profile or display information you provide. Friend, blocking, request, device, and session data may be processed for sharing and discovery.

2. Cloud services

Zap runs on Google cloud services. They provide sign-in and account management, storage for profiles, friends, requests, discovery and connection setup, server operations such as account deletion and alpha tester signup, push notifications, and crash reporting. Crash reports may include diagnostic information, device or app information, identifiers, and event metadata.

3. Transfers and files

Files are intended to transfer peer-to-peer directly over the internet or a nearby local connection. Zap does not intentionally upload file contents to its servers, but connection setup, transfer requests, file names, sizes, peer or device identifiers, status, timestamps, and related metadata may be processed. Transfer history and received files may remain on your device until you remove them.

4. Permissions and local storage

Depending on the feature and device, Zap may request photo, video, audio, storage, camera, location, and notification permissions for file selection, QR scanning, nearby discovery, and notifications. Zap stores app data locally, including transfer history, settings, notices, and temporary transfer state. Permissions are controlled in your operating-system settings.

5. Retention, deletion, and security

Account and operational data is retained as needed to provide Zap and meet applicable obligations; periods vary by data type and service. In the app, open Profile > Account & Data > Delete account to delete your account and request deletion of associated server-side profile, friend, request, and known transfer data. This does not automatically remove device-local files or history, peer-held copies, backups, or data retained for security, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes. Zap uses authenticated access, encrypted transfer paths, and other appropriate controls, but no method is completely secure.

6. Alpha tester signup

If you request access to the Google Play alpha on this website, we store the email address you enter so it can be added to the tester group. It is used only for that purpose. To have it removed, email the address below.

7. Service providers

Google provides the cloud infrastructure used to operate Zap and has its own terms and privacy documentation.

8. Policy updates

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date.

9. Contact
