File transfer for Windows, macOS and Android

Send files straight to the other device.

Zap connects two devices directly, so there is no upload step and no link left behind. Send to your own devices, to friends, or to someone in the same room, with or without internet.

Why send it directly

A cloud link makes you upload first and leaves a copy behind. Zap skips both.

Three ways to reach someone

On Auto, Zap picks the route. You can also choose one.

  1. Remote

    Anywhere with internet

The two devices connect directly over the internet. The file goes straight across, and a relay option is there for networks that block direct connections.

  2. Friends

    People you already trust

Add a friend once by their exact email. After they accept, you can send to them without scanning a code every time, and you can block anyone.

  3. Nearby

    No internet needed

On the same Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot, devices find each other locally and transfer without leaving the network.

How a transfer goes

  1. Pick who, then what

Choose a device, a friend or a nearby receiver, then select files or whole folders. Auto picks the route; you can force Local or Remote.

  2. Confirm the connection

Nearby sessions pair with a QR scan or verification code. Remote ones connect automatically. The receiver gets a request to accept.

  3. Send and check

Files stream directly between the devices and each one is checksummed on arrival. The result stays in your history.

Security

What protects a transfer, and where your files do and do not go. Read the full privacy policy.

  • Files skip the server

Files go device to device. Our servers handle sign-in and helping devices find each other, never file contents.

  • Encrypted nearby sessions

Nearby transfers use X25519 key exchange and AES-GCM encryption, paired with a verification code.

  • Encrypted remote channels

Remote transfers are encrypted in transit, with an optional relay mode that hides your IP address from the other side.
